Spring Wedding At Deep River County Park

May 11, 2026 Steve Vansak

Deep River County Park in Merrillville, Indiana, is an iconic location for weddings, one of Northwest Indiana’s most scenic natural wedding venues. I’ve been shooting there since the beginning of my photography career, and I even remember going there with friends during high school and watching an eclipse once with an old girlfriend.

It still has its rustic, old-world charm with the grist mill, old country store, and of course, the long-standing gazebo where so many have tied the knot.

Jessica and Jonah have now joined the many who have said “I do” at the famed park.

Wedding ceremonies are when families, y members who have not seen each other in a while get the chance to converse and greet one another. I usually try to capture this as guests arrive and before the music starts.

Deep River Park has a lovely cobblestone path that wedding parties walk down to the iconic gazebo for their ceremony. Jessica walked the path with her dad, and the mother of the groom escorted him down the aisle.

Besides the groom, Jessica gave her young son Levi a post-ceremony kiss just before we started family group photos.

The reception took place at East Point Venue in Crown Point, Indiana, and was very much a family affair. The couple had a joyous first dance and a cake-cutting ceremony.
