Winter Wedding At Aberdeen Manor

February 17, 2022 Steve Vansak

Snow falls upon the dance floor at Aberdeen Manor.

Carrie and Brandon had been planning their winter wedding at Aberdeen Manor Ballroom in Valparaiso, Indiana for quite sometime. The day had finally come and snow was falling when I arrived for bridal prep photos.

I found non-stop laughter and plenty of moments to capture. I even got to pop over to see the groom and his crew as they were nearby.

Carrie had two first looks / reveals. The first was a great moment with her sons who had looks of amazement as they saw mom in her dress. This all lead up to the big reveal with Brandon.

After coming down from the emotional moments of the reveals we realized - it’s cold outside! It was time for portraits of the bride and groom and the wedding party as began arriving for the chapel ceremony.

The wedding ceremony took place inside warm confines of the Aberdeen Chapel. Carrie’s eldest son walked her down the aisle as friends and family looked on. There were plenty of laughs during the proceedings but also some emotional moments that required a few tissues.

Soon we were walking across the street for the rocking reception.

The Aberdeen Manor Ballroom looked elegant as ever and introductions lead into the cake cutting and some spirited speeches. Then it was time for first dances and the opportunity for everyone to celebrate the winter wedding of Carrie and Brandon.

Winter Wedding At Center For Visual & Performing Arts

December 13, 2021 Steve Vansak

Bride and groom kiss under string lights at Center For Visual & Performing Arts.

It had been a long time coming! Sarah and Brent have been my wedding client for 3 years now as they planned their winter wedding at Center For Visual & Performing Arts only to have the health crisis of 2020 delay them to this year.

The day finally came where they could celebrate with friends and family and they did so in a big way!!

Our day started with bridal prep inside the bridal suite at the Arts Center and the groomsmen getting ready for the day at home.

Soon it was time for our mid-afternoon first look on the patio of the Center For Visual & Performing Arts. Although it was a bit chilly, Sarah loved the patio area with the brick flooring and greenery. They had fun as they came together for the first time on wedding day.

We took some romantic wedding photos outside before moving inside for photos on the staircase and then back out again for some fun shenanigans with the entire wedding party.

At my winter weddings I always try to be aware that my subjects are going to be cold so we need to do things quickly and find ways to keep them warm. These bridesmaids were lucky recipients of groomsmen jackets and unfortunately the guys got stuck with bouquets of flowers. As always, having fun trounces cold temperatures!!

The wedding ceremony took place on the ballroom floor. The newlyweds broke bread and drank wine as well as they literally tied the knock. Soon the first kiss was underway and then it was family group photos straight into cocktail hour.

The wedding reception had some terrific speeches - funny, emotional and celebratory. The first dances were lovely moments and the dancing was simply off the hook. Our groom was hoisted into the air several times and I don’t think our bride left the floor much at all. Good times…

Winter Wedding At Maki Ballroom

December 7, 2020 Steve Vansak

Christmas tree lights surround the bride and groom outside the Old Lake County Courthouse.

Tori and Steve had originally planned to have a Spring wedding but this is the year 2020 and well, we all know that plans for this year had to be flexible to put it mildly.

So a winter wedding it ended up being and what a beautiful day it was.

I started off with bridal prep at the Old Lake County Courthouse inside the spacious Accessor’s Room on the third floor while Kay covered guy’s prep at the couple’s home.

In between taking details photos of fun moments, mementos and the flowers provided by Kathy’s Florist I also snuck down to the Maki Ballroom as was amazed at how Stacey and crew of The Grand CP had created a winter wonderland for the reception later that night. Stay tuned for those images down below.

The ceremony took place just down the street at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Crown Point. Before we left the downtown Square to see Tori walk down the aisle, we had a first look with Dad and Kay took some portraits of the groom outside the venerable church while I shot the girls in the downtown area.

After the ceremony we took family photos and bride and groom photos inside the church. Then we made our way to downtown Crown Point for some unique, night time bride and groom pictures outside and inside the Old Crown Point Courthouse.

As I explained earlier, Maki Ballroom truly was a winter wonderland. Musician Denny B. entertained guest before and after dinner. Spotlight was on the bride and groom for the first dance and the father of the bride got a bit emotional during the dance with his daughter.

November Wedding At County Line Orchard

November 16, 2020 Steve Vansak

Bride and groom among the apple orchards in early Winter / late Fall.

Daniel and Sofia had cool temperatures, but warm hearts for their mid November wedding at County Line Orchard in Hobart, Indiana.

I covered bridal prep inside the bridal suite while second photographer Kerrie photographed the guys at the couple’s home. True Beauty by Dana handled make up duties and the pajama party was sponsored by the bridesmaids themselves!

The wedding ceremony was held indoors in the south barn with the bride and Dad making their entrance down the wooden stairs. Right after the ceremony we went outside for group photos around the barn as well as portraits of the newlyweds. Then it was back inside for family pictures and the reception.

The reception decorations were quintessential County Line Orchard rustic pieces and the donuts we all crave were on hand for all to enjoy along with delicious cupcakes. The instant cameras were put to good use as was the game area in the balcony.

I neglected to mention the taco truck that arrived for those who were hungry from dancing as well as one of the most athletic moves I’ve ever seen to snag the bride’s bouquet!!
