Wedding At St. George Greek Orthodox Church

October 12, 2020 Steve Vansak

Wedding ceremony at St. George Greek Orthodox Church

Maggie and Ben had a lovely day for their Fall wedding at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana. We started the day at the home of the bride’s parents where in addition to hair and make up by Melissa Marshall - on location shoulder massages were being given courtesy of the father of the bride.

A swarm of bees attacked the flower girl and “please turn on the blue tooth” means the sister of the bride and maid of honor can and will break into dance.

Oh, and another photographer showed up to try and upstage me!! :)

Wedding day fun.

I photographed some at home portraits of the bride while second photographer Jaime captured the guys who were right next door. Then it was off to the church for the ceremony.

Let it be known that if it wasn’t for You Tube, no groomsmen’s ties in all of America would be properly placed and secured.

The bride walked down the aisle escorted by her Dad as friends and family looked on. St. George Greek Orthodox Church has some incredible architecture so I made sure to take some wide shots to show it off along with getting in close to see the happy expressions of these newlyweds.

After family photos at the altar it was time for wedding party and bride and groom pictures. A few in the church and then we went to Lake Hills Park in St. John to capture some Fall color.

We met up with the wedding party for group photos and then it was off to the reception at The Patrician.

Wedding reception guests at The Patrician Banquets were treated to some sweet treats and lovely decorations when they arrived. The bride and groom were introduced and immediately went into their first dance and cake cutting. After dinner it was parent dances and then the dance floor opened up.

If dancing wasn’t your thing, you could always grab your coloring books for entertainment. And yes, that is REAL MONEY all over the dance floor!

Wedding At Village Church In Dyer, Indiana

May 25, 2020 Steve Vansak

It felt great to be out shooting weddings again and capturing people’s memories. I could not have asked for a better group of folks to do so with than Amanda and Taylor and their families.

This post will be different than what you you usually see here as there was no reception and there were no guests due to the current health emergency in the world. That celebration will come at a different time.

We did have a cake cutting though!! And really, it’s all about the cake… ;)

Home is where this wedding story begins.

As the sign says, “home is where the story begins” with Amanda’s bridesmaids getting hair and makeup done. Everyone was in great spirits and I had fun telling stories with them and photographing the decor for the day.

The wedding ceremony at Village Church in Dyer, Indiana was preceded by a first look with Dad before he brought her down the aisle to the awaiting groom, Taylor.

As their pastor stated, “things happen for a reason” and although many seats may have been empty because of this health crisis, hearts were very full. The groom’s mom was very excited for her son and his bride and it showed when they exited the church.

After family photos and wedding party pictures at church, we all took off for Centennial Park where a “cake ceremony” and “bubble send off” was planned for the newlyweds.

While family set up for the cake ceremony, the wedding party and the happy couple wandered Centennial Park with me taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful Spring day we had.

So this was my very first outdoor “cake ceremony” at Centennial Park. It was a great idea! I didn’t know it was happening until the day of but I’m really glad this sweet moment took place.

The bride and groom cut their cake and then exited down the walkway as family and wedding party blew bubbles. They all then grabbed an undercover picnic area and ate some delicious cake.

The official reception will take place later when friends and family can party on the dance floor.

Fall Wedding at Center For Visual and Performing Arts

October 29, 2019 Steve Vansak

Night photo of the bride and groom in the rain under an umbrella.

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”
— John Ruskin

“It’s going to be 100% chance of rain today” said our bride Mary when I arrived for getting ready pictures. She was matter of fact about it but I could tell she was not happy about that. But, she also knew she was surrounded by the important things - friends, family and the love of her life - Ben. As far as pictures, we had to all run a bit faster and think on our feet but I was also excited to give these newlyweds a peak at the back of my camera with a shot like above.

Mary did her mom’s make up as well as her own while I captured the camaraderie and the details. Under The Veil handled hair. I met the groom for some detail shots over at Munster Center For The Visual and performing Arts in Munster, Indiana just before the first look on the spiraling staircase. This reveal was as grand as those wonderful stairs.

We utilized the wonderful lobby at the center and then braved our way out into the rain for some images. The groomsmen gave up their jackets and then feigned freezing and we had some fun as clouds opened up even more.

Wedding photos in the rain can have a very romantic look about them, especially in black and white.

After pictures of the wedding party we headed inside for family pictures and then made our way to Crossroads Community Church in Schererville, Indiana for the ceremony. Then it was back to the Center for Visual and Performing Arts for the celebration.

The Center For Visual and Performing Arts is a very elegant wedding venue and the bottle of champagne awaiting the bride and groom certainly reflected that. I believe the couple likes to cook and the recipe guest book had folks choosing their favorite dish. The dance floor was live for sure.

August Wedding At Sand Creek Country Club and St. Michael's Parish

September 2, 2019 Steve Vansak

Newlyweds snuggle at the base of a weeping willow tree at Sand Creek Country Club.

I would describe Brie and Ryan’s wedding day as picturesque, complete with a small town trolley as transportation. The day started at the bride’s parent’s house where hair and make up crew Brook’s Beauties and Make Up by Riem had transformed the kitchen into a salon. The beautiful dress came courtesy of Paris House of Bridal and video of the day by Elegante Media.

One of the items on my list to capture for the day was the bridesmaids decorating Polly the Trolley who would be transporting the wedding party to St. Michael’s Parish and again to Sand Creek Country Club. The groomsmen were already waiting after second photographer Kerrie captured their prep at a nearby hotel.

Soon after the trolley arrived at church, the ceremony began with Dad walking Brie down the aisle and sister Alyce escorting the couple into the sanctuary of St. Michael’s Parish.

We strolled the grounds of Sand Creek Golf Course in Chesterton, Indiana until it was time for the reception to begin. We visited the covered bridge deep inside the course as well as the famed weeping willow tree near the lake.

All this wedding stuff can get exhausting you know, so sometimes a nap for the wedding party is in order. Gotta save up that energy for the dance floor!!

While I finished up bride and groom photos, second photographer Kerrie covered cocktail hour where guests mingled on the deck balcony that overlooks the beautiful course at Sand Creek Country Club. Soon it would be time for introductions, surprise visits, cake cutting and dancing with a soundtrack courtesy of 27 Entertainment. Cake was by Beck’s Crown Bakery in Crown Point.
